Filip Vester

I felt welcome immediately, from the very first moment. The people who greeted us trainee candidates did so with open arms, and the atmosphere at the office was almost tangible.
From Jazz musician to Software Engineer
When Filip Vester joined Resurs in 2023, he brought with him a background that is anything but typical for a software engineer. After finishing high school Filip moved to Malmö to study jazz composition at the Academy of Music, a passion that had long played a central role in his life. After three years, however, something began to change.
– What once felt joyful slowly became stressful as expectations to perform kept increasing. That’s when I decided to look for a new professional path and let music remain an important hobby instead.
The decision led him to pursue a bachelor’s degree in information systems at Lund University. As his studies came to an end, Filip — like many of his classmates — began looking into trainee programmes as a way to start his career. That was when Resurs entered the picture.
– I didn’t really know much about Resurs at the time, but I recognised the name, mostly in connection with instalment payments, I think from the public dental service. It wasn’t until I was invited to an information day at the Malmö office that my understanding of the company really took shape.
A first impression that set the tone
That first encounter left a lasting impression.
– I felt welcome immediately, from the very first moment. The people who greeted us trainee candidates did so with open arms, and the atmosphere at the office was almost tangible. I’d attended similar events before where you could easily feel invisible — at Resurs, it was the complete opposite.
Out of around 30 invited candidates, five were selected for Resurs’ very first internal trainee programme. Today, four of them are still working within the organisation.
A trainee — but a colleague from day one
Filip joined as a trainee with a focus on Java backend development.
– From day one, I was placed in a team and treated like any other developer. I joined daily standups, discussed backlog items and technical solutions, and got to work handson straight away. I’ve heard that many trainee programmes start with classroom learning before production. At Resurs, it was learning by doing from the start, with plenty of coaching and support from mentors, colleagues, and managers.
The approach suited Filip well. He enjoys tackling problems, breaking them down, and finding solutions — and the way of working made him quickly feel like a natural part of the team.
From trainee to scrum master — a fastmoving journey
A lot has happened since then. From starting out as a Java backend developer, Filip has broadened his skill set towards frontend development and now works as a fullstack engineer. Since spring 2024, he has also taken on the role of scrum master in his team, alongside his developer role.
– Nothing has ever been forced, but I was clear early on that I wanted to grow. All three engineering managers I’ve had since joining have supported that ambition, and that has meant a great deal to me.
Trust, culture, and people
When Filip reflects on what has contributed most to his development, it’s not just about roles or formal learning, it’s about the culture at Resurs.
– There’s a very high level of trust within the team. It doesn’t matter whether you’re junior or senior — everyone contributes on equal terms, and good ideas aren’t held back by hierarchies. Add colleagues who are genuinely supportive and who believe in what you want to achieve. That quality really defines and strengthens Resurs.
Today, Filip also makes a point of giving back. When the next group of trainees joined, he naturally took on the role of ambassador, helping to pass on the same welcoming spirit he experienced himself — not least by helping to lower the threshold for new colleagues.
Looking ahead
Finally, he shares a few words of advice for anyone considering applying to the Resurs trainee programme:
– Being a trainee at Resurs requires curiosity, drive, and a willingness to take responsibility from day one. You need to dare to challenge yourself, test your ideas, and ask questions. If that sounds like you — then Resurs is absolutely the right place.
